2006 US Carbon Emissions Data
May 31st, 2007 by jayb
Last week we looked at the bad news about increases in US greenhouse gases from 2000-2004. Here is some good news.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA), the official US government source for energy statistics, has released preliminary data on US greenhouse gas emissions in 2006 and the picture looks much better.
US carbon emissions fell by 1.3% even while the economy grew by 3.3%.
President Bush claimed credit for the decrease, pointing to his new policies, incentives and investments. Critics responded by pointing out that the Bush Administration’s own estimates for US carbon emissions show an increase of 30% over the next 25 years. Not a very confident assessment of the new policies, incentives and investments.
Nevertheless, we have a decrease in 2006. In 2007, EnergyRacers will be able to point to their contribution to a lowered carbon emissions number.
