This Saturday StepItUp2007 is organizing gatherings of Americans in 1347 locations all across the US to urge Congress to take action on climate change. StepItUp 2007 was started by noted environmentalist Bill McKibben. Tens of thousands of people will take part and I hope you will join in.

While doing research for this site, I went looking for the amount of carbon dioxide (Co2) that is produced when electricity is generated. I thought I would find the number and plug it into a formula.

I decided to build this website last spring and summer. Frustrated by 6 years of environmental avoidance by the Bush Administration, tax cuts for oil and coal companies, the lost leadership opportunities, the lost economic opportunity from possible new technology startups, I decided to build a website that would help Americans take action in spite of Washington DC. My anecdotal experience was that people were concerned about global warming but weren’t sure what they could do about it.

I don’t fit the traditional profile of an environmentalist. For one thing, I’m late to the party. My Prius is only 1 year old. It’s true that I rarely fly, but that’s because I get claustrophobia and not because I’m reducing my greenhouse gas emissions. I have been recycling and composting for many years but I would only describe my efforts as thorough for 2 years or so.
