Paper or Plastic

January 31st, 2008 by jayb

I just came across a piece in The Washington Post that answers that nagging question we always hear at the grocery store: 'Paper or plastic?'

It is really a trick question for which environmentalist/actor Ed Begley Jr. has the answer: 'Neither!'

Here is The Washington Post article.

But here is the problem.  I have changed the car I drive, how I heat my home, the food I eat but remembering to bring bags with me to the grocery store is not catching on with me.  The above article suggests that by bringing several large collapsible plastic crates with me, I could unload the car with fewer trips.  That might be just enough to get me over the hump.

We just throw a couple of cloth bags in the trunk and the next time we’re at the store, there they are, ready for us to use.  Plastic crates would certainly do the same trick.

How do you remember to get them into the trunk in the first place?  Things that need to go with me when I leave the house in the morning are piled near the back door.  As I leave the house I grab the car keys and anything else that’s sitting there and off we go!
