EnergyRace Members Reduce 2,000 Tons of Carbon
May 16th, 2007 by jayb
670 EnergyRacers are doing great things to fight global warming.
The EnergyRace community is growing quickly and is making a big difference in the fight against global warming. 670 of you are taking steps to reduce almost 2,000 tons of annual carbon dioxide! That’s like taking 187 Hummers or 300 Toyota Tundras off the road. All those small changes add up.
I thought you might be interested in some details about how we look as a community
We have reduced an average of 18% of our carbon dioxide emissions.
30% of us live in apartments, 65% in houses.
We are from every US state except for North Dakota. (Anyone have a friend in North Dakota?)
We fly 3 times the national average of 1,079 miles per year
Here are our top 10 carbon dioxide reductions
Turning down the heat at night (33% of us who need gas or oil to heat our homes)
Recycling aluminum cans (24.7% of us)
Turning off or hibernate computers overnight (24% of us)
Washing clothes with a cold water rinse cycle (23.6% of us)
Recycling plastic (23.3% of us)
Recycling glass (23.3% of us)
Recycling newspaper (23% of us)
Recycling mixed paper (22.2% of us)
Turning off the car A/C when its below 65 degrees (21.4% of us)
Using compact fluorescent bulbs (21% of us)
There is a much good news here although it's equally clear that there is much more we can do.

7 for conversion to Ethanol fuel which can reduce air CO2 level. However

It’s great the Energy Race Community is doing what it can to combat global warming...I think being part of an online community whether for this cause or other interests is the best way to have your voice heard.
